Abstract
The relation of platelet aggregation and diabetic microangiopathy was studied in 76 diadetic patients and 60 healthy controls.
1) Using Chrono-log platelet aggregometer, the maximal platelet aggregation induced by5¥ìM ADP and5¥ìM epinephrine was 93.5¡¾13.4 and 86.0¡¾24.6 in control group and 93.4¡¾14.6 and 92.6¡¾16.4 in diabetic patients. There was no statistically significant difference between control and diabetic patients.
2) The effect of diabetic plasma on normal platelet aggregation was measured by the increase of platelet aggregation induced by luM of ADP in mixtures of 1 : 8 V/V of diabetic plasma, and normal platelet-rich plasma over the same normal platelet-rich plasma without diabetic plasma, (plasma factor activity). A significant increase (P< 0. 01) of plasma factor activity over 32 controls (4.4¡¾4.1) 4 minutes after addition of - ADP was observed in diabetics (20. 9¡¾22.8).
3) These platelet aggregation enhancing activity in 35 diabetics without clinical evidence of complication (8.7¡¾9.9) was greater (0.01<0.05) than control group.Activity in 21 diabetics with neuropathy and/or mild retinopathy was 14.3¡¾13.5, and in 20 patients with severe retinopathy: and/ or occlussive vascular disease was 49.1¡¾22.0. A rough positive correlation was observed between the activity and severity of complication.
4) No correlation was noted between this :plasma factor activity and duration of diabetes or plasma level of fasting and postprandial.
